An Introduction to Quakerism

As our recent Fryer starters have been learning about Quakerism and the essential values which underpin our School, our Year 7s headed off to visit our local Friends Meeting House, just a short walk away.

While at the Meeting House on Church Street, the students were given an introduction to Quakerism and learned all about how a Quaker Meeting House operates.

They also had the opportunity to participate in a Drama workshop, looking at different aspects of Quakerism and how they’ve changed social justice in the world, for example within business. The workshop lasted about two hours and was led by former Drama teacher, Julia Lloyd, from Quakers in Britain

During their visit, the Year 7s also had a Meeting for Worship and a Q&A session with Quakers.

Following their visit to the Meeting House, the group then continued their trip to the Reading International Solidarity Centre (RISC). RISC raises the profile of international issues and promotes action for sustainable development, equality and social justice.

The trip proved to be a fantastic introduction to Quakerism.
