Artist Spotlight: Anna

The beginning of the Summer Term sees the blossoming work of Anna in Upper Sixth on show in our Oakview exhibition space. “After a pause from our regular showcase in this communal space, while important coursework ensued, it is with delight that our exhibition programme gets back into swing with both Anna’s work on show, and a dazzling glimpse of the final IB Diploma work seen at the end of last term.” commented Head of Art, Mark Wood.

“The artwork on show in Oakview is fitting for the change of seasons and takes inspiration from the natural world, reflecting the flowing shapes and folds of flowers and coral. Anna’s creative practice leans into both fashion and fine art, fusing her love of textiles with sculptural and textural processes to produce elegant paintings and conceptual garments.”

Mark continued, “The work is also partly inspired by the work of Susan Derges, seen on a recent gallery visit to Bristol, where layers of the natural world overlap and fuse together as photographic memories. In a similarly transformative fashion Anna hopes her work crosses disciplines where paintings become sculptures and colours dance as light and shadows change with the day.”

“Next year, Anna hopes to further explore her passion for creative possibilities in fashion, textiles and technology and we hope that her recent show inspires others to do the same, even while queuing for lunch!”

Anna remarked, “My portfolio focuses on the ways in which movement and paused moments within space can be captured. Throughout my project, I’ve taken inspiration from a number of artists and designers that have all experimented with different processes of their own to manipulate materials and construct forms to portray the flow of movement.”

“Ever since I was little, I’ve been fascinated by the way fabric can be manipulated into voluminous structures and love to experiment with different sewing techniques and materials to explore the endless possibilities of fashion. Now I am coming to the end of my A Levels, I am planning on going on to study Fashion Design at university later this year to build my skills and hopefully become a designer in the future!”
