Oakview restaurant offers a gallery space for our talented students with the foyer this term showing collaborative portraiture created by our artistic Fryers. Each of the three forms worked together to produce collages of some of our national treasures, making the faces of David Hockney, David Attenborough and Judy Dench from a collection of individual tiles.
Head of Art, Mark Wood, explained: “Each square shows the unique style of the person who created it, but together they form something bigger.” Inspired by Hockney’s ‘joiners’ the groups worked together to make three pieces of artwork which can be appreciated by the whole community. Mark continued: “This project is about celebrating who we are, while also enjoying the changes we see in one another and the world around us.”
During Long Leave the annual Art and Craft Fair organised by the Rotary Club of Maiden Erlegh is set to add even more artistic flair to Oakview’s light and airy spaces as the weekend of 25th and 26th October are dedicated to a fundraising exhibition. In conjunction with the Thomas Franks Foundation both Feeding Communities, a project supporting local food banks and food share groups, and the Royal Berkshire Hospital will benefit from the display and sales of creative works.
