You can often spot sport and science enthusiast, Mia dedicating gaps in her day to training on the Park. Having taken a keen interest in athletics and running since joining the School as a Fryer, Mia regularly competes in school and county events.
Most recently, the Lower Sixth Athlete raced her first ever 3k event on Wednesday 12th May at Linford Christie Athletics Stadium, London. The event was a ‘British Milers Club’ Open where Mia’s goal was to qualify for the English Schools’ Athletic Association Track Championships in Manchester later this Summer. The qualification time was 10.18 which Mia comfortably achieved, running 10.10.
Mia commented “I’m really pleased to qualify. I had a niggle in my foot and I was worried I might not even complete the race at one point. I’m really looking forward to the Manchester event. My coach and team mates have really helped.”
With access to the School’s 65 acres from 7.20am to 9.00pm, Mia uses Games sessions, utilised to best engage students interests, and Running Club to build up her stamina and refine her technique.
Jez Belas, Director of Sport, PE and Wellness, remarked “Mia has worked so hard on her running since joining the School as one of my tutees in Year 8. I’ve been privileged to see her progress from good school runner to elite national level over the last five years. It shows you that hard work and dedication really does pay off.”
