Athletics Triple Triumph
Over the past few weeks, several students have represented the district in the Berkshire County Athletics Championships. On Saturday 11th June, 12 students from Years 9 to Upper Sixth competed at Bracknell Athletics Stadium in their various track and field events.
Securing his own personal best, Ted in the Lower Sixth gave a standout performance on the day as he won the Senior Boys Shot Put with a throw of 12.77 metres; this was just 3 centimetres short of entry to the English Schools Competition.
On Friday 17th June, Year 7 students competed in the Reading Town Championships at Palmer Park Athletics Stadium. The Sport, PE and Wellness Department were impressed with a number of the performances in both track and field, with several athletes selected to represent Reading in the U13 Berkshire County Athletics Championships on Wednesday 29th June.
At Bracknell Athletics Stadium, Adaeze in 150m, Demi in High Jump, Mia and George in Long Jump, Grace in Shot Put and Ben in 1000m, all delivered superbly! “Our Year 7 athletes selected to represent Reading at the Berkshire County Athletics Championships today did us proud with some excellent performances. George was fourth in the Boys Long Jump, Demi was joint third in the Girls High Jump, Adaeze made the 150m final finishing sixth and the Girls Relay Team made up entirely of LP students won the relay.” enthused Director of Sport, PE and Wellness, Simon Bradbury, after the event.
He continued “The stand out performance was from Mia who broke the Championship Record in the Girls Long Jump with a phenomenal jump of 5.04m!”
