This term, Reckitt House have been collecting donations of toiletries, clothes and entertainment goods for Berkshire Women’s Aid (BWA). As a thank you to the community, on Tuesday 14th December, the House sold slices of delicious homemade cake as part of a BWA Bake Sale. The initiative, which enticed students and staff with colourful sprinkles and festive designs, raised £60, in addition to the 12 big boxes of goods donated for the charity.
Before the big bake day, Natasha Coccia, Senior Assistant Head: Partnerships and Co-Curricular, enthused “We are all very proud of you and the team for doing this in the last week of term and wish you every success with this very organised charity fundraiser – well done and good luck!”
Head of Reckitt House Council, Anne, said “I think we have done well for ourselves this term; our donation stations and Christmas cake fundraiser were great opportunities for Reckitt to come together and show everyone who we are as a house. Together we showed what we stand for in Reckitt; embodying our kindness, friendship and the values of peace and community through our work raising awareness about domestic violence, fundraising and collecting the everyday necessities that someone might appreciate more than we can imagine.”
Considering Reckitt’s partnership plans for the near future, Anne continued, “We are looking forward to 2022 and what we can do to continue supporting BWA in new, creative ways. During our end of term Collect, Reckitt House members will be asked to contribute and share their ideas on how we can come together as a house to support BWA.”
Becky Edwards, Housemistress of Reckitt, commented “Berkshire Women’s Aid is an amazing charity, selected by our boarders, to support victims of domestic abuse. The empathy and generosity from the Reckitt and LP community has been staggering, through amazing donations of toiletries, children’s toys, bedding and linens.”
“The Christmas cake sale has seen amazing success, with many students showing huge generosity by buying multiple slices to share with their friends. Reckitt boarders have worked hard in their house families to decorate their Christmas cakes and will be delighted by the positive reaction to their efforts. Our fantastic house council are always discussing new methods of fundraising for BWA and we welcome any input from the wider Reckitt and LP community.”
