Leighton Park students welcomed the Year of the Tiger on Tuesday 1st February with celebrations in the boarding houses and in the Language Department. Decorations adorned the spaces around the Park reminding everyone of the significance of the date through the lucky colour red, lanterns and golden Chinese character writing.
Mandarin teacher, Lan Worrall, led Languages students of all ages through the history of Chinese New Year with an overview of Chinese traditions as part of the Languages curriculum, whilst the younger years made Chinese lanterns in Fryer House’s well being room during their breaktimes.
Reckitt House hosted a banquet for boarders on the Tuesday night sharing delicious food and cultural experiences as Chinese boarders mingled with those many other countries. Oakview restaurant continued the theme on Wednesday lunchtime with a Chinese themed buffet offering a wide selection of authentic dishes for students to sample. Chopsticks were available for the adept supplemented by the usual cutlery for those who were too hungry to master a new skill on an empty stomach!
