Marking the end of LGBTQ+ History Month, the Gender and Sexualities Alliance (GSA) group decorated rainbow cakes during morning break in preparation for their lunch with Head, Matthew Judd, on Monday 28th February. “I had a lot of fun decorating the cupcakes with people in the club because we usually discuss serious issues in school and breaktime today was an escape from that and we just had fun.” said Caterina (Year 11).
“This is the first time the group will have met with Matthew to discuss what is going well and what they would like to change within the school as it relates to their journey as GSA members. It is important for our students to be involved in the change management around diversity issues.” commented Shaun Dellenty, Diversity and Inclusion Lead.
“It was a bit chaotic but fun in the end!” laughed Giulia (Lower Sixth) I’m in Year 12 so I don’t normally get to do Food Tech. The GSA is very inclusive and it feel like a very safe space to express ourselves. I am hoping that the school community can move further from performative allyship and more towards active allyship going forwards which will mean people relearning behaviours.”
“It was a delight to share lunch with the GSA. I was honoured to be invited into their safe space and to celebrate in a community of real diversity and inclusion.” reflected Matthew at lunchtime.
