Christmas Evening Meeting

Sunday 12th December was planned to be a community gathering in Main Hall to celebrate the meaning of Christmas by bringing together staff and students, alumni and families connected with Leighton Park to hear seasonal readings and festive carols. Although the event had to be virtual for the second year running, the LP tech team did a wonderful job pre-recording many of the items so they could be shared with as many people as possible in a Covid-safe way.

The Meeting is a reflective space and offers moments of silence interspersed between the musical performances of the Senior Choir, Fryer Voices, Orchestra, Chamber Choir and soloists. The readings are both secular and religious but all carry a message about the value of peace, forgiveness and friendship. This year they were read by members of the School from a variety of year groups and included contributions from members of staff as well.

The success of the evening is not only in the presentation of the wonderful music, which included LP classics such as ‘Mary did you know?’ and ‘Star Carol’, but in the opportunity to gather together for a shared reflection; taking time to remember the strength our community can offer each individual member. As we move closer to Christmas, aware of the threat of perhaps another lockdown in the new year, these moments of togetherness, even online, help build our resilience, recognising that even when we need to take a different approach we will still find a way to keep our traditions alive.
