Come From Away Theatre Trip

Described as ‘a celebration of the best of humankind’, Come From Away, is a critically acclaimed, award-winning musical that captures the spirit of the events that transpired in the wake of 9/11. Many of the characters are based upon real people, including Nick and Diane Marson, a Brit and an American who fell in love following the disaster.

On Thursday 1st December, GCSE, A Level and IB Drama students, had the chance to see the story unfold for themselves at the Phoenix Theatre in London.

“There were comical moments but then you remembered the subject matter; I was on an emotional rollercoaster!” remarked Resident Theatre Graduate, Lucy Chapman. “A lot of students commented on how they found the cast’s physical movement interesting as well as the interactions between the characters. The fact that there was no interval meant that you saw all the characters on stage for the whole time and were completely invested in the story. The vocals were amazing!”

Head of Drama, Peter Scoggins, commented “This production was chosen to further student learning in GCSE, A Level Drama & Theatre Studies and IB Theatre. This is a great opportunity for students to write about a production and be inspired by excellent work.”

In the Spring Term, the department look forward to welcoming cast member Gemma Knight Jones, to deliver a workshop and seminar all about working in the world of theatre.
