After weeks of rehearsals, on Wednesday 3rd November, our KS3 dance groups were eager to perform their routines and compete against schools from across the UK at this year’s ISA National Dance Competition. The event has also left them inspired to try out new techniques in the dance studio.
Tackling the emotive themes of the 2005 London bombings and the atrocities that occurred at Auschwitz under Nazi regime, Year 9 and 10 respectively worked hard to do their subject matters justice.
Beth Butler, Dance Teacher, commented “The Year 9 and Year 10 GCSE Dance group have a lot to feel proud of today. The standard was exceptionally high from over 14 schools.”
“The adjudicator commented on how challenging her job had been trying to select winners. Our KS3 dancers gave a sincere performance with their piece ‘It Wasn’t A Normal Day’ which had responded to the 2005 London bombings as a stimulus. Year 10’s performance was so moving which explored the idea of Nazi Germany and what took place at Auschwitz.”
Beth continued, “I am extremely proud of how the dancers represented LP today. They behaved beautifully supporting students from other schools. It was so lovely for us to be together in a theatre experiencing dance as a live art form.”
Year 9 student Livi reflected, “I absolutely loved competing in the ISA Dance Competition because it was amazing to be able to perform live to such a big audience again, after so long, due to Covid. It was so magical to watch all the other performances and learn about everyone else’s styles and ideas. The whole competition has definitely inspired me to try new styles, moves and tricks and I can’t wait to perform again in upcoming shows! I’m really looking forward to Let’s Dance in the summer!”
The School now eagerly awaits the results of the competition and wishes all contenders the best of luck.
