Composition Masterclass with RNCM Guru, Adam Gorb

Music students in the Lower Sixth were presented with a unique opportunity on Friday 24th June as they met Head of School of Composition at the Royal Northern College of Music, Professor Adam Gorb. Adam spoke to the assembled group about  ‘Life at a Conservatoire’ following his talk with an interactive workshop on composition which focussed on the issue of developing ideas.

Rosemary Scales, Director of Music, observed “This will be really useful for developing students’ own compositions, particularly thinking about their A Level coursework. This is a really exciting opportunity to learn how to improve their work.”

Adam’s role at the Royal Northern empowers him to strive for the highest standards of composition training amongst the School of Composition staff through day to day running of the School of Composition including classes, workshops, composer opportunities and portfolio submission. He is the winner of three British Composer Awards, having studied music at Cambridge University and Composition at the Royal Academy of Music followed by a PhD in Composition at Birmingham University. His works have been performed by the BBC Philharmonic, the Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, the Maggini Quartet, the BBC Singers, and the Royal Marines and he is particularly talented in composition for wind ensembles.
