Contributing to Positive Change: Supporting the Red Cross

Following a hearty fundraising effort for the British Red Cross last term, it was a pleasure to hand over a £700 cheque to President of the British Red Cross Berkshire, Matt Tams, and Community Fundraising Manager for the British Red Cross, Annie Burton, on Friday 8th March.

Last month, students supported the Red Cross by donating two pounds each in return for non-Collect dress on Friday 2nd February. The funds raised by Leighton Park staff and students will allow the Red Cross to help with first aid, shelter, food and water and psychological help, all of which are severely needed for the victims of the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict.

Matt’s words resonated with the School community, emphasising the importance of young people actively participating in charitable initiatives and demonstrating compassion towards those in need. He highlighted “The Red Cross is based on kindness and service and it’s great to see young people showing that in serving, giving back and thinking of those who are less fortunate than them. We can also see the strong connection between our charity and the School’s Ethos, which is an important connection to have”. In recognition of the significance of youth involvement, Annie added: “It is so important; the young are so important. It’s a part of giving back when you’re young enough to give a bit more. It’s been really great to see the enthusiasm here [at Leighton Park]”.
