Creative Communications Showcase 2023

The Creative Communication Showcase on the 10th May was a real treat; bringing together the talents of students in Year 9 and above to share their original films, compositions and performances with technology.

Some of the participants are completing our Creative Digital Media BTEC Level 2 in Years 10 and 11 whilst a number of our Sixth Formers are studying Film Production BTEC Level 3,  Music Technology and/or Music at either IB or A Level. Others were simply keen to share their originality and showcase the work they have created at co-curricular hobbies or in their own time.

The showcase included vocal compositions, performances on the guitar and saxophone, small ensembles with a variety of instruments and several performances with technology. A number of short films were also shared set to well known soundtracks.

Music Technology teacher, Dan Fisher-Weinesen, commented, “The students were absolutely amazing; this is the first time we have really seen what they can do and they put the whole thing together themselves. It was brilliant to watch and honestly, I was blown away by the quality of their performances. Some of the technology was really difficult to master and they just got up and did it; it was incredible! I think of the computer like an instrument really; there is a lot that can go wrong and you’ve got to be really on top of it – you can’t relax – you are actually playing that piece; the timing is critical.”

Rosemary Scales, Director of Music and Media, agreed, “It’s one thing to see what they have composed on paper but when you hear those compositions come alive on the stage; it’s at another level. I was so impressed – it really did sound fantastic. We’ve got some really talented students here; of course we see that in our usual concerts and in lessons, but when they get to compose their own stuff and it’s brilliant, well, that’s something really special.”
