On Tuesday 13th June our Dance students in Years 7 and 8 enjoyed a contemporary Dance workshop with Will Hodson formerly of the ZoieLogic Dance Theatre and 2Faced Dance Company. Will has visited Leighton Park on a number of occasions now and is described by Dance teacher, Beth Butler as “a very inspirational role model as a male professional dancer.”
Students explored a range of dance technical exercises and extended movement phrases with the workshop culminating in a piece being created which will be performed in the annual ‘Let’s Dance’ showcase on Thursday 15th June.
Will commented “It’s amazing to have a group of young dancers for a whole day to show them what’s it’s like to be a young dancer or to work in a professional environment. To have a morning class where you are getting to understand your body and learning new things then moving on to a creation process where they can be creative and they can throw their ideas out from an idea that I’ve brought and then they can expand something.”
He continued “It’s like a team building exercise where they can understand that like “It’s not my time to shine yet, it’s this person’s time to shine, and then when I go on people will understand and respect what I’m doing.” Then they can work together to make duets, trios and bigger groups pieces. I think they’ve really enjoyed the physicality of moving and shifting through the space today; they can really release their energy!”
