Cross Country Success at County Champs!

Top runner, Mia (Upper Sixth) was victorious in the Berkshire Schools’ Cross Country race at Newbury Showground on Saturday 22nd January. Mia completed the 3.9km course first against a competitive field of 16 runners, earning  a place on the Berkshire Team for the English Schools Athletics Association (ESAA) Track and Field Championships in the summer. With just 50 athletes from Berkshire travelling to Manchester in July for the event Mia is privileged to be representing the Senior Girls for her county in the 3000m race.

Mia will also be competing in Kent for Berkshire on Saturday 19th March in the English Schools Athletics Championships. If she does well there there is a chance Mia could be selected for an England team to represent her country competing in European competitions this season!

Delighted with her win, Mia reflected, “I did not do any specific training or tapering for the race as I am in the middle of lots of mileage and am currently focusing on racing indoors but I compete in cross country races to help build strength. . The school have supported me well since I started competitive distance running by allowing me to train and use treadmills and the gym during some of my study periods as well as during games which helps me fit in the hours of running without having to compromise too much studying! It felt really good to cross the finish line as this was the first proper cross country race I’ve ever won!”
