Crunching Numbers and Cultivating Minds at the UKMT Maths Challenge

On Thursday 2nd May, Leighton Park took two teams of four along to represent our School at the UKMT Team Challenge, hosted by Headington School.

UKMT organises Team Challenges across the country for Year 8 and Team 9 students. These Team Challenges allow students to tackle a variety of engaging mathematical activities while developing teamwork and communication skills.

Ahead of the event, Leni Samuel, Head of Maths, commented “This will be an amazing experience for all students, especially the Year 8s who will be able to help train the teams for next year’s UKMT Maths Challenge.”

The Teams all competed against each other in four rounds; The Group, The Crossnumber, The Shuttle and The Relay.

Highlights for LP Team members included: “Being able to do maths that I wouldn’t be able to do in normal lessons”, for James (Year 8), whilst Joban (Year 8) “liked the Relays and the Crossnumber”.

Abi (Year 8) celebrated, “I have really enjoyed working with friends and to take part in this maths challenge. It has been a really fun experience and I am so happy I got this opportunity.”
