Our Sixth Form CTEC students had the opportunity to build up both their sports leadership skills and live out their Quaker values on Thursday 10th October supporting our KS2 Festival of Football. Five primary schools came together experience training and matches on the astro prior to enjoying hot dogs and hot chocolate together. Katesgrove Primary, Alfred Sutton Primary, Redlands Primary, Christ the King Primary and New Christchurch Primary are all located in the vicinity of Leighton Park and their pupils were pleased to experience a morning of sport.
Michaela Clark, a teacher from Katesgrove Primary School who accompanied one of the groups explained, “We’ve brought the Year 5 children here for the football tournament and they’ve had the most amazing time. It’s a good opportunity and they’ve really enjoyed it!”
Hamish (Upper Sixth) commented, “I think this kind of football festival is really important because it encourages participation from a young age. And for ourselves learning leadership skills, coaching and officiating. Overall, everyone is just learning about football and enjoying it as well which is really cool.”
The pupils were very enthusiastic: “I found it fun, even though we lost at least we tried.” said Aiyan from Redlands Primary School. “I thought it was very energetic fun and I loved it!” agreed classmate, Eva. “We had fun and tried our best.” added Akram.
Leighton Park provides opportunities for our students to get involved with outreach and partnerships work throughout their school careers, demonstrating the Quaker values and encouraging changemaker behaviours. Giving young visitors the chance to try something new, sharing the new astro pitch with a new community group and treating all players with equality, integrity and respect is an essential aspect of a Leighton Park education.
