We are thrilled to announce that Mikayla placed fifth in the NATD Theatrical Scholarships Finals for the Senior Contemporary category, held on Sunday 5th October in Sutton Coldfield.
The competition was exceptionally strong, with 21 talented dancers taking part. Impressively, Mikayla was the youngest competitor, with most other entrants being in Years 12 and 13. To achieve a top-six placement and bring home a trophy is truly outstanding!
Reflecting on her achievement, Mikayla said: “I am really proud of myself for placing today”. Leighton Park Dance teachers, Beth Butler and Anja Nash, who went along to support expressed: “It was a pleasure to watch her on the stage dancing with such a high level of musicality and contrasting dynamics. She really did embody the phrasing of the accompaniment. Transitions into and out of the floor were seamless resulting in a unified whole piece that did leave the audience transfixed. So many people from the audience took the time to speak to us about how Mikayla had stood out to them for all the right reasons”.
