Dance Scholars Working with Dance Expert

Independent dance artist, Ellie Stephenson, who previously trained at Rambert Dance company, worked with Leighton Park dance scholars to create a fantastic choreography piece! The dance will be premiered at Let’s Dance 2025.

Dancing to ‘Aware’ by Adrian Berenguer students were really challenged due to the ¾ time signature, not something they are used to. The day was intense and the end piece is a real reward for all their hard work. LP Dance teacher, Beth Butler, continue to polish the piece of work with the students to perfect it for the performance.

Akshay (Year 8) explained what he enjoyed most about the workshop was “the different styles within contemporary dance that the artist had explored not just sticking to classic contemporary dance. These extra workshops benefit my dance learning by looking at how well I am outside my comfort zone because contemporary dance is a very small section of the dance world and looking at the bigger picture, these workshops are really fun but also a great opportunity to see what other things that you can do outside of just contemporary dance”.

Freya (Year 9) added: “Opportunities like these are really exciting as a scholar as often we will be given opportunities to try new styles of dance and do things that we wouldn’t otherwise do, for example a couple of months ago there was a hip hop workshop which gave us the chance to try a different style, one I had never done before!”.
