A huge congratulations to Mikayla (Year 9), who has been successfully selected for the finals in the Senior Category of the NATD Contemporary Dance genre at the London Area Theatrical Scholarship Heats, held on Sunday 8th June.
Despite being one of the youngest dancers in the Senior category, Mikayla impressed the judges with her distinctive style and vibrant stage presence, standing out among 12 competitors of exceptionally high standard.
The National Association of Teachers of Dancing (NATD) offers inspiring opportunities for dancers to both compete and celebrate their passion for dance. The day included a full programme of ballet, tap, jazz, and contemporary performances across junior, intermediate, and senior categories.
Mikayla now advances to the NATD finals, which will take place in Birmingham on Saturday 5th October. There, she will perform a Contemporary solo, competing against the top dancers from the four regional heats: London, Midlands, North, and South West.
Her mother, Sylvia, shared her pride: “It is a great opportunity for Mikayla… I’m so honoured and delighted to watch her. Very proud and can’t wait to see what the next level brings. Thank you.”
Mikayla added: “I really enjoyed it! It was my first time competing as a solo dancer, and I’m so excited to go to the finals in Birmingham. I really encourage anyone else to enter next year!”
We look forward to seeing her represent Leighton Park in the finals, bringing her energy, creativity, and passion to the national stage. Dance Teacher Anja expressed her joy: “I am extremely proud of Mikayla, the competition was of a really high level and she really stood out, I really encourage others to enter next year as a really wonderful opportunity!”
