The Social Enterprise group was thrilled to host their annual Christmas Fair on Wednesday 11th December in the MMC from 4.30-6.30pm. The Fair was a lovely introduction to the Christmas season; the MMC was beautifully decorated by the PSC, and we there were music and festive edibles to add to the atmosphere.
The Fair included various Christmas themed stalls and games, many of which were run by student entrepreneurs. With activities from hook the duck to spin the sweet wheel, Christmas decorations to purchase to Scalextric and a lucky dip stand, there was something for everyone! The Parent and Staff Community manned the PSC refreshments stall, supported by Sixth Formers, serving hot chocolates, warming sausage rolls, and an array of Christmas sweet treats.
The profits from the Christmas Fair stalls will be combined with proceeds from other Social Enterprise events held throughout the year. At the end of the school year, these funds will be donated to a charity selected by the group. Their next initiative will be the Valentine’s Roses Appeal in February.
This year we also enjoyed a full programme of music and dance with pianists in the upper foyer and a host of dancers and musicians on the MMC stage. Our LP Dancers (Noah, Garet, Isla, Connie, Emma and Akshay) treated the audience to solos, duets, quartets and group dances. Adding to the festive ambiance, musicians performed beloved Christmas classics, piano solos, and jazz quartet arrangements, enhancing the Christmas spirit.
Business Teacher and Social Enterprise Group Co-Ordinator, Sarah Owen, shared “The Christmas Fair was bigger and better than ever this year! We had around 32 stallholders, with the majority of stalls being run by students, or teams of students who had collaborated together to organise the most wonderful array of games/products, everything from Christmas decorations to jewellery to the most brilliant wooden games many of which had been made in DT. We were overwhelmed with the entrepreneurship and creativity of the students! They all seemed to thoroughly enjoy the event, and no doubt learnt many entrepreneurship skills. Many were running stalls raising money for specific charities and it was wonderful to see so many giving back, particularly at this time of year.
The Social Enterprise team did a fantastic job organising and running the fair, it was quite a logistical feat, from getting all the music and dancers organised, to deciding on the food, organising all the stallholders and managing the money! The Social Enterprise students learnt lots of new skills including planning, thinking on their feet and working as a team! Well done Social Enterprise!”.
