Delighted by A Level Success: A*-B Grades up by 20%!

Matthew Judd, Head of Leighton Park, articulated the joy at the School this morning as our excited Sixth Formers received another set of spectacular A Level results. “Once again I am enormously proud of the work of the students and all that they have achieved to gain great success in the examination results this year. I am also very proud of the staff who have supported them and all the work over the last two years through a very difficult education landscape with Covid. We must never forget that this particular cohort have not been through a series of public examinations before and it is all credit to them that they have achieved these fantastic results.”

Alex Wallace, Deputy Head (Academic), was equally jubilant: “Achieving 74.3% A*-B grades, almost a 20% increase compared with the last set of live exams in 2019, is phenomenal.” enthused Alex.

Alba, whose 3As and a B for her EPQ, are taking her to Birmingham University for Art History and Modern Languages next year was elated: “I was quite relaxed this morning and I opened my results here; I fancied the surprised and it was a surprise! I didn’t expect to get these results; I’m very happy!”

Alba’s mum, Daniela, was thrilled with her daughter’s success: “She worked enormously hard, I am proud beyond words, she has done as well as she could have done so it’s fantastic. She deserves those results, she knuckled down and she’s done really well. The Sixth Form has been amazing, just everybody. Before she came here we never thought she could get what she’s got. They believed in her and that made her believe in herself. I don’t think she’d have been in the position she’s in had she not come to Leighton Park.”

Nicola (3As and a Distinction* for her CTEC) collected her results remotely but was a pleased as possible with her grades which will take her to read Geography at Loughborough University next year.  “From Year 7 all the way through to the Upper Sixth, the teaching has been exemplary, the support when she has struggled, has been incredible and the leadership opportunities she has been given have been life changing and will help so much in later life.” said her mum, Diane.

Sara was another proud mum on the Park today: “I’m really proud of Ella, she worked so hard and did amazingly from it. We did have a lot of tears this morning, tears of joy! Leighton Park has been so supportive; I highly recommend it, it’s been incredible.” Ella’s 3A*s open up a world of choices for her as she is considering Architecture degrees at Manchester and Liverpool and planning her year out in Costa Rica.

Niam  (A*AA) is keen to continue his studies immediately, heading to Birmingham University for Dentistry. “I’m feeling relieved mainly and a bit overwhelmed as well!” he laughed whilst dad, Sailesh’s nerves were far less frazzled, “As far as we’re concerned, whether he got into university or not, we’re really proud of him.” he smiled.

Niam joins David (4A*s) headed to Oxford University for Materials Science in September and Mohammad (3A*s, 1A) reading Computer Science at UCL as one of the cohort’s top scoring STEAM students. The School, having won the Award for Excellence in STEAM (Science Technology Engineering Arts and Maths) Education in 2021, integrates the arts and creativity with the rigour of analytical subjects. Combining these habits of mind with innovation, teamwork and creative problem solving provides students with valuable skills for life and future employment as well as academic success.

Music, another strength of the School, once again saw students take up places at the UK’s leading conservatoires. Taran, who has always been very active within the Music Department at LP,  gained a Scholarship to study for a BMus in composition at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Joe, one of the School’s first cohort of BTEC Level 3 Digital Music Production students, is delighted to be joining Leeds Conservatoire for their Music Production course.

Oscar, celebrating his A*AB and his place for Geography at Southampton University, summed up the mood for the cohort: “I think ‘chuffed’ is the word. I’m very, very pleased; the hard work has paid off! My Sixth Form teachers were very, very good, supportive and with you the whole journey of it. I couldn’t be happier!”

Top scoring subjects this year included Computer Science (100% A*-B), Maths (80%) and Further Maths (100%) A*-B, Government and Politics (100% A*-B) and Geography (90% A*-B). In additional to offering the BTEC course, the School also offers a CTEC course in Sport for which students achieved 100% Distinction or above today.

Leighton Park’s success at Key Stage 5 is recognised by the Government’s league tables for Sixth Form Academic Progress. The latest figures show Leighton Park to be the top performing school in Berkshire and 27th in England for academic progress, one of only eight schools nationally to appear in the top 100 every year since the league tables began. Leighton Park was also awarded Best Co-Educational School, South East England in 2021.

If you are considering studying A Levels, CTEC Sport, BTEC Digital Music Production or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, the next Sixth Form Open Evening at Leighton Park School is on Tuesday 11th October at 6.30pm and our Annual Open Morning for all entry points is on Saturday 24th September from 9.00-11.00am.  Book online or contact Admissions via admissions@leightonpark.com or 0118 987 9608.
