On Thursday, 27th February, Year 4 students from Dolphin School visited Leighton Park School for our inaugural Sports Nutrition Workshop. This event combined the expertise of both the Food Technology and Sports Science departments to help the students understand the importance of fuelling their bodies and living an active lifestyle.
For Class 4A the day began with an introduction to the Food Technology facilities, where they worked under the guidance of Food Tech teacher Karen Hicks to prepare a healthy snack. They created a fruit & granola bar designed to provide the necessary energy and nutrients to support an active lifestyle. This hands-on experience allowed the children to improve their practical skills in the kitchen.
Meanwhile students in Class 4B started with an interactive session led by Leighton Park’s Sport teachers, Ross Paone and David Morton, who guided the students through an engaging exploration of the energy required for various activities. The children discovered how much energy their bodies need to perform these tasks and how the right nutrition can support their performance. The session was full of practical examples and activities, helping the students realise the impact of nutrition on their energy levels and sporting ability.
After a delicious lunch in Oakview and a refreshing play in the fresh air, the classes swapped activities to experience the other half of the workshop.
The workshop was the “perfect launch for the Year 4 students’ DPQ Project Award on Health & Fitness. 10/10!” according to Dolphin’s Assistant Head, Lisa Williams. It offered a fantastic opportunity for them to explore how Food Tech and Sport Science can work together to promote a healthy, active lifestyle. Filled with learning, creativity, and fun, the day helped the Dolphin School students gain a deeper understanding of nutrition and its role in both sport and everyday life, providing a solid foundation for their upcoming project.
