As part of their unit on Quakerism, the Year 7 Philosophy, Religious Studies and Values class went for a walk down to the Reading Meeting House. This is an annual trip for the year group and allows the students to be actively involved with Quakers on a personal and individual level.
With the help of Julia Dover, a drama coach, students explored stories about Quakers. Some of these stories which the students acted out included the involvement of Quakers in the Suffragettes movement, telling the story of George Fox, and how a group of children continued to conduct Meeting for Worship and other aspects of Quakerism when their parents had been jailed for their beliefs.
Stephen Taynton, Head of PRV, commented on the benefit of the trip, saying ‘It is always a pleasure to allow our students to gain knowledge outside of the classroom and the visit to the Meeting House celebrates our mutual commitment in upholding Quaker values and those of the School, and to work together on bringing together communities based on equality, peace and integrity’.
