Year 12 A Level Dance students were physically challenged as they took part in a Pilates Reformer class with Celia Victor on Wednesday 1st May. The workshop introduced them to a new approach to movement, aiming to refine their physical abilities while emphasising the connection between mind and body.
During the class, students had the freedom to choose the intensity of their workout, granting them a sense of independence and allowing them to challenge themselves at their own pace. The new experience developed an appreciation for how the exercises allowed them to focus on a combined use of strength, flexibility and control.
The students found particular value in syncing their breath with each movement, a practice they believe will enhance their performance readiness for A Level Dance. The exposure to diversifying their training, enhanced an appreciation for how dancers need to experience a range of different types of exercises from different genres to allow them to be strong, versatile performers.
Reflecting on the class, A Level dance student Charlotte shared her insights: “I really enjoyed the Pilates workshop on Wednesday. It was such a new and interesting experience for my fellow classmates and myself as we had never done it before. Throughout the session we did various stretches and a whole body workout. I think that this really benefited our practical side of the dance A level as we strengthened and stretched our body which will enable us to be stronger and much more flexible in our movement. It was an exciting trip!”
