Ten of our students travelled to Hemel Hempstead ski centre to compete in the ISA National Indoor Ski Championships, to gain footage for their GCSE PE and CTEC Sport coursework. However, they gained much more than that, with resounding success in their ski races.
When arriving at the Indoor Ski Championships venue, the students were excited but also nervous to compete against the schools who had travelled from all over the UK to race. The students had a warmup on the slopes and then got straight into the slalom races. Each participant had the opportunity to race twice, which allowed them to take their best race time from either of their runs.
Phenomenal results in particular from Alfie and Casper, both Year 11, who came 5th and 7th overall, out of 172 skiers. Meanwhile Eva, Year 10, and Anna, Year 11, finished 16th and 23rd in the Female U16 race.
Well done also to Leighton Park’s other top skiers taking part: they were Dylan and Kayo, both Year 11, Tio, Ollie and Harry, all Year 10 and Ted, Upper Sixth. Zoe Macpherson, Head of PE & Games, remarked “The event was a huge success. All of the skiers should be super proud of their efforts and representing the school in this event.”
