Finishing the Spring Term with Final Collect

The Spring term came to a close on Friday 31st March with Final Collect witnessing a plethora of achievements across Music, Art, Sport, Maths, STEAM and Drama and awards being celebrated for co-curricular, academic, community and House merits. As Matthew Judd, Head, reflected in his closing remarks: “There has been a fantastic spirit of endeavour this term.”

The Collect also celebrated our talented musicians with Alice’s bassoon piece opening the assembly, Leuey’s stunning piano playing offering an interlude and the morning concluding with the Chamber Choir\s brilliant a cappella performance.

Imogen Cook (History teacher) presented awards for the ‘We should know her name’ competition which encouraged students from across the school to design a poster recognising the achievements of one of the 50 female scientists recognised as part of LP’s British Science Week engagement. Mark Budge, STEAM Co-Ordinator followed with a precis of the week which involved over 200 students together with an overview of the term’s trips and on site events. Peter Scoggins, Head of Drama, and his team awarded students for their excellent contributions to ‘The Tempest’, “Return to the Forbidden Planet’ and ’21 Chump Street’, the latter being a student initiated musical. Rosemary Scales, Director of Music, presented two shiny new trophies for House Music, the judges’ choice going to Alana (Year 9) and the House Music Cup collected by Cadbury. Simon Bradbury, Director of Sport, introduced the sporting successes with over 150 fixtures plus the House competitions in football, swimming, rugby, netball, hockey and basketball this term. Reaching out to younger pupils has also been a huge feature with Sports Leaders, Scholars and PE CTEC students delivering KS2 Masterclasses in Hockey and Netball, weekly swimming support and even managing to squeeze in a trip to St George’s Park!

The Dunston Award for contribution to community life and the co-curricular award, the Sissons Cup, were both won by Tubman, with Cadbury picking up the Castle Trophy for academic achievement. The Merit Cup was collected by Bentsi-Enchill and will be sporting its red ribbons on the trophy stand in Old School until the end of the academic year!
