The very first Leighton Park Sports Day ever to be held at Palmer Park Stadium took place on Monday 3rd July and was a great success in its new venue! The day also marked the first time that the four new Houses competed against one another at this event and marks the final House competition of the academic year.
Palmer Park provided a good venue, with students enjoying the action from the stands. Our talented students enjoyed representing their Houses, with some phenomenal individual performances and a real sense of community and camaraderie with students wearing their House colours and cheering on their friends.
Tubman prevailed on the day, winning both the Junior and Senior sections – with Bentsi-Enchill winning the Fryer Category. Stand out individual performances included George (Year 8), Mia (Year 8), Youssef (Year 9), Iris (Year 9), Harry (Year 9), Rebecca (Year 11) and Ted (Lower Sixth).
House Pull (tug of war) was incorporated into Sports Day for the first time and proved a huge success. As well as competing in different athletic categories, the Houses were also raising funds for their chosen charities in lots of inventive ways. Cadbury was raising valuable funds for Launchpad Reading, with Fox raising funds for Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice and Bentsi-Enchill raising funds for Cowshed Reading.
Many parents attended, adding to the atmosphere and the special celebratory feel of the day, with many commenting on how, even though Leighton Park has extensive sports fields, the venue of Palmer Park gave the day a special focus.
Matthew Judd, Head, commented “It was a great day and enjoyed greatly by the students. The whole of LP played a part in making this the success that it was.”
