The third annual House Quiz was a cerebral battleground on Thursday 27th February as four contestants represented each of Bentsi-Enchill, Cadbury, Fox and Tubman, in Main Hall. Fox House emerged the winner, upholding their unbroken streak of success since the first competition in 2023. The Bailey family stars, Chloe and Daniel, were back together creating the unbeatable quiz squad with Noah and with James, who amusingly shares the same surname despite being no relation.
Under the expert direction of seasoned quizmaster, Alex Wallace, Deputy Head (Academic) and scorekeeper, Sally Saunders, Head of Pupil Personal Development, the teams faced several rounds of challenging questions. Alex was pleased to be fronting the afternoon, saying, “It is a brilliant event which brings the school community together. The variety of rounds, including Sport, Music, Science, Media, General Knowledge and the ever popular and difficult round of History of LP make it an accessible and exciting event for all. The atmosphere was really wonderful and supportive of the brave souls who put themselves in the hot seats!”
Lauren Brandwood, House Clerk for the winning team, Fox, enthused, “Having House Quiz as a House event is super valuable as it gets the whole school together supporting each other. It is an opportunity for everyone to cheer their House on, as co-curricular is collapsed and the whole school is invited. Although they are small teams, the contestants feel as though they have full support from their House and I know they have so much fun answering the questions, especially the ones about the school.”
House Clerk for Tubman, Ellie Smales, commented, “House Quiz is a fantastic competition because it gives students the opportunity to participate in an event that differs from the usual sports and music competitions. It’s wonderful to see the entire school come together, discussing the event afterward and celebrating those with exceptional knowledge. Additionally, it holds special significance as the nemesis of Tubman, and we’re determined not to finish in fourth place again!”
Isabella (Year 9) from Cadbury House, was a House Quiz novice, reflecting: “I really enjoyed being part of the Cadbury House Quiz team as it was my first time taking part and a fun experience. I felt quite nervous at the beginning because I was unsure how difficult the questions would be, and I didn’t feel confident about some of the rounds. I wanted to contribute as much as I could and help Cadbury do well in the quiz. I think in the end, we all worked well together and between us managed to do better than we expected.”
