Fryer CAS Festival

On Wednesday 6th July students from Year 7 and 8 welcomed parents, guardians and friends to the first official celebration of Creativity Action and Service in the Fryer curriculum: the Fryer CAS Festival!

Located in Main Hall the students showcased the work they have produced during their CAS sessions. This year the Year 7s and Year 8s have tried Music, Web Design, Board Games Design, Sports Leadership, Creative Writing, Arts and Textiles which are offered on a rotating carousel.

CAS Co-ordinator and Spanish teacher, Pablo Gorostidi-Perez, commented, “CAS gives students the opportunity to learn by doing things, and to do that with a purpose, for example, helping a charity of their choice. Some courses could be more challenging that others, but that’s ok as the target is, also, to learn about yourself. Students are also given the opportunity to reflect on their learning process.

For Pablo, a real highlight of the 2021-22 CAS programme has been the new edition of the Creative Writing course anthology of poems, called ‘The World Paused’. English teacher and CAS leader for the Creative Writing sessions, Damon Young, says that the title “accurately describes the 55 minutes sessions each week where we have come together, read together and created an oasis of calm in which these poems have come to life”.

Pablo is enthusiastic about welcoming back Year 7s next year and to seeing our new joiners in September getting stuck into all that CAS has to offer. He encourages them to “Come and embrace all the learning opportunities LP provides you with, and CAS is at the heart of what LP represents: Let Your Life Speak.”
