Our Year 7s enjoyed a wonderful residential in France this week, soaking up the beautiful weather.
After travelling to Dover with lots of fun and excitement on the coaches, students really enjoyed their ferry experience. Looking out at the views and enjoying the ‘kids zone’, before reaching the hostel for a late dinner of chicken, chip and veg!
The first morning saw everyone up bright and early and heading to La Touquet. Everyone enjoyed preparing their baguette lunches before setting off with a choice of cheese or ham with lots of lovely salad. The sun was shining, and they were ready for a great day!
Making the most of the beautiful weather, they headed straight to the beach. Students enjoyed their time in the sand, hunting for shells, building sandcastles, digging holes and playing American Football, Frisbee, Baseball and Football.
Next up was the La Manufacture Du Touquet Biscuits et Gournmandises for a demonstration and explanation on how they make shortbread. The morning closed by wondering around the daily market, marvelling over all kinds of items from food and accessories to soft furnishings and clothes.
On to Nausicaa Sea Life Centre they go! The Sea Life Centre was “the best place ever!” with lots of excitement and plenty to see. Big fish, little fish, jellyfish, sea lions, penguins and everything in between. A giant aquarium watching a Giant Manta Ray was a highlight for many.
After checking out of the hotel on their second morning, breakfast was had and baguettes for lunch were made. Onto a chocolate factory with chocolatier Simon! The experience provided a fantastic tour and talk, explaining to the students about where the cocao beans come from and how the chocolate is made. Sampling some of the raw ingredients as well as some chocolates was a real treat. The students learnt some new French words and made their purchases from the shop, while singing their new French song with Simon! Off to the boulangerie next!
What a wonderful visit to the Boulangerie! Students met a baker family and had a few lessons in french and learnt how to make croissants and bread. Obviously, they enjoyed a trip to the shop after, sticking up on pastry and bakery goods.
Heading to Dunkirk next as their trip came to a close and checking into their ferry to home sweet home. The trip proved a perfect ending to the school year and we hope our Year 7s had a wonderful few days away!
