Berkshire Women’s Aid and Churches in Reading Drop In Centre (CIRDIC) each received the proceeds of our students’ successful fundraising efforts on Friday 25th March benefitting from the generous donations from the community’s recent giving.
CIRDIC were visited by Field House Manager, Jan Bell, and a small group of students keen to make a difference with the money from their cookie sale. The group acquired some tasty snacks earlier in the term and sold them at morning break for 50p per cookie. They raised a total of £130 for the homelessness charity which was given in cash to the CIRDIC charity based on Berkley Avenue in Reading.
Rebecca Wiles, from Berkshire Women’s Aid, visited Leighton Park to meet with Upper Sixth student, Anastasija, who is leading the fundraising on behalf of Reckitt. She and Rebecca discussed plans for continued fundraising over the summer term and Anastasija is looking forward to motivating the House to support the group in the next few months.
Anastasija commented, “Reckitt students have always been driven and passionate about their connections with the local community. It is amazing to see how our House community and the Reckitt House Council has been able to come together to contribute to Berkshire Women’s Aid to support women and children who are in need of advocacy, safety and help after experiencing domestic violence. Reckitt has truly shown what we stand for through our actions in 2021 when we first elected BWA as our House charity. We are looking forward to embodying our House values of compassion, altruism and kindness as a community in the upcoming Summer term through our plans for a new donation-based appeal as a means to support the survivors of domestic violence in the Reading area.”
