Leighton Park’s GCSE Dance students made the most of an exclusive duet workshop on Friday 29th September, led by choreographer Mel Simpson. The immersive five-hour intensive workshop aimed to deliver technique, choreography and performance skills, all of which are essential elements that will contribute to the success of their GCSE Dance exam next year.
Under the guidance of Mel Simpson, the students explored techniques and themes of breath work, contraction and partner work that advanced into Mel’s choreography of a moving and expressive contemporary duet for the students to perform in their GCSE Duet Exam. Before the upcoming exam, students have the opportunity for independent rehearsal time as well as support from Beth Butler, Dance teacher, in order to perfect their movements learnt from the workshop.
Leighton Park is proud to have extended the Dance curriculum from the beginning of September 2023 with our first cohort of A Level Dance students delighted to continue their Dance education following their successful GCSE results in the Summer. The School’s commitment to creativity and the arts offers a range of opportunities for our students and gives each individual the opportunity develop their own strengths. The GCSE Duet workshop represents one of many unique and invaluable opportunities for students at the School, with the dancers having enhanced their skills, broadened their artistic horizons and elevated their successes.
