Pre-season rugby training got off to a strong start on Thursday 31st August. The girls were in good spirits and enjoying some superb coaching from Emma Uren, Olympic and Commonwealth athlete and member of the GB rugby sevens squad that won Gold at the 2023 European Games.
Charlotte (Lower Sixth), who is in the England Development Player Pathway in Berkshire enthused: “It’s really good to have a pre-season and encourage more girls to have a go and have fun with friends.” Another member of the England pathway, Cali (Year 11), added: “I’m really excited for this season and looking forward to all of us pushing ourselves”.
This is the first year that Leighton Park will be entering competitive fixtures for the girls’ team. Sam Bowers, PE Teacher and Rugby Coach, explained: “We’ve got a really big group of keen girls, so it is really exciting.”
In the middle of setting up drills, Emma commented: “Rugby is a sport that is growing and it is great to see the next generation coming through. I’ve really enjoyed seeing girls this age loving their rugby”.
