Goldsmiths’ Company Community Engagement Award Finalists

On Friday 25th March, a team of students from Years 8 to Upper Sixth virtually attended the Regional Finals of the Goldsmiths’ Company Community Engagement Awards. Competing against a number of schools across England, the finalists spoke about Leighton Park’s Quaker values and how they are embedded into the life and spirit of the School.

Launched in 2019, the Community Engagement Awards, celebrate the positive impact that schools have through voluntary and charitable initiatives within their local communities. Former Prime Warden of the Goldsmiths’ Company, Judith Cobham-Lowe OBE, has said of the awards, “We’re trying to recognise what children and schools do that isn’t just about exams and grades. It’s about how they serve and help their community.”

In their presentation to the panel of judges, Angelika, Harry, Erin, Esha and Youssef, shared the work of student-led charity, Amicus, campaigns for local, national and international organisations, House charitable engagement, and our educational partnerships.

The judges praised “Great job team, thank you for sharing your amazing community and voluntary work with us!”

Esha in Year 10 remarked, “It was a wonderful experience as I got to learn about the amount of stuff we do at Leighton Park to help. It was a privilege to be chosen and I am very proud to have represented this key aspect of Leighton Park as a school. I think the number of things we do here to help people who might not be able to help themselves, due to difficult situations is great.”

Natasha Coccia, Senior Assistant Head: Partnerships and Co-Curricular, commented “The students spoke passionately and enthusiastically about our values in action to an impressed panel of judges. After the presentation, they were given 30 minutes to take questions and did a fantastic job of sharing the diversity of work across the School. Particular thanks to Angie, our Outreach and Partnerships Prefect for steering the ship! What a team!”

As social consciousness remains at the heart of a Leighton Park education, we wish the other finalists well and look forward to the announcement of the award winners in the coming months.
