Head Boy Spencer Shaves Goodbye

As Head Boy, Spencer, gets ready to make the transition from Leightonian to Old Leightonian, together with his Upper Sixth peers, he also shaves goodbye to his lavish locks for charity.

On Wednesday 23rd June, a host of supportive students and staff shared words of encouragement with Spencer, as he sat nervously outside his boarding House, ready for the clippers to be brought out.

Sister, Queenie in Year 9, was delighted to execute the initial chop, triumphantly revealing the long ponytail to her brother. In addition to the head of hair that Spencer is giving to the Little Princess Trust to be made into a wig, he has raised 100% of his target donation for the charity, reaching a phenomenal £1,200.

Natasha Coccia, Assistant Head: Director of Co-Curricular and Outreach, exclaimed “Thank you Spencer for this incredible fundraising effort in your final chapter at LP. What a way to go! A huge moment for you and a wonderful thing to do!”

Spencer reflected “I’m quite pleased with it and I’m glad I’ve done it. It’s all for a good cause and it will grow back. Thank you to everyone that donated and thanks to everyone that helped with the cutting!”

“The Little Princess Trust makes and donates wigs to children who have lost their hair due to cancer, or other conditions such as alopecia, and also fund cancer research. However, they themselves receive no formal funding and need money to fund the wig making process and therefore rely on donations to do their work. This is why, in addition to shaving and donating my hair, I am raising money for them as well.”

“On a more personal note, I am shaving my head for this specific charity as the Little Princess Trust helps and has helped many people over the years, including members of my family.”
