On Wednesday 9th February, the U15 Hockey Girls made their way to Lee Valley Olympic Park for the 7 a-side National ISA tournament!
“The day started well with a 1-0 win over Alton School thanks to a well-crafted goal from Rebecca. Our two remaining group games saw us dominate the possession of the ball and create loads of scoring opportunities. Sadly, we weren’t able to score that well deserved goal in either game, meaning we drew both 0-0. Our defence was unbeatable with Chloe, Rebecca and Alex all controlling the flow of the game impeccably. Despite conceding no goals and only scoring 1 goal in the three group games, we ended up third in our group.” commented Matt Richards, Head of Hockey.
“We then went through to the bowl competition (3rd tier out of 4) where we played a semi-final on the main Olympic pitch in the stadium at Lee Valley Olympic Park. It was awesome to play where the GB players do. We dominated the game again, but unfortunately one attack from the opposition saw a goal being tapped in back post which Anna was just unable to reach in goal. We lost the game 1-0 as we still were unable to find the back of the net. This meant we were off to a 3rd/4th playoff in the bowl competition. We started this last game very strongly with an early goal from Zara. Thanks to some determined and skilful play from our midfielders, Charlotte and Niamh, we controlled the rest of the game and confirmed the win in our final game of the day to earn a bronze medal.”
Matt reflected, “The girls were in good spirits all day, having loved being in the Olympic Park and seeing all the facilities that the GB Olympians use.”
