The Year 11 parents’ evening welcomed Inspiring Futures to Oakview on Friday 25th January for their impartial advice on careers and further education options.
Inspiring Futures offer careers guidance and skills training for young people by through workshops, events and impartial Careers Education Information And Guidance (CEIAG) to students in Years 7 to Upper Sixth. Students receive psychometric profiling tools (FUTUREWISE), one to one guidance, skills workshops and career insight events, which ultimately help young people identify the careers, and routes to those careers, that suit their skills, interests, values and aptitudes.
Amanda Spurrier, Regional Advisor, was welcomed to the Park to explain opportunities to parents and students and to help with their choices between the International Baccalaureate Diploma and A Levels. Discussions about the impact of subject choices on apprenticeships and degree courses beyond the Sixth Form presented alternatives and ideas for reflection, encouraging students to consider the myriad of possibilities.
The evening follows the students’ experience of Futurewise profiling earlier in the year and enables informed discussions based on their strengths and interests. Students have access to a dedicated webspace via Inspiring Futures’ ‘Futurewise’ online platform which allows them to research careers and further education options by selecting the content that appeals to them and keeping it together for reference and input from family, friends and teachers.
“Working with Inspiring Futures allows our students to feel supported and informed when making important decisions about life both at, and beyond, Leighton Park. Working with our students from Year 9 gives them time to consider whether A Level or the International Baccalaureate programme would be more suited to their abilities and interests. The workshops and the psychometric profiling encourage students to consider options that they would not have encountered otherwise and enables them to learn which of those choices will be the best for them.” explained Karen Gracie-Langrick, Deputy Head (Academic).
