Sondheim’s dark and witty classic brings to life familiar Grimm fairy tale characters in a way that you have never seen before.
Their stories intertwine but can the characters unite to save their community? Will they live happily ever after? They must be careful what they wish for….
Our Senior Production by Years 9 – Upper Sixth is set to grip audiences from this evening (Tuesday 10th February) until the end of the week, Friday 13th February. If you haven’t yet booked your ticket, it’s not too late to see this spectacular show!
Jessica Wittert van Hoogland, Director of Drama, explained: “Despite the fact that the script is based on fairytale characters, it is actually very complex so it’s been a challenging piece to bring to the stage. The progress that the cast have made since September is just brilliant. I am incredibly proud of all of the students who’ve worked with so much determination, energy and joy to take this from the page to the stage.”
Elise (Upper Sixth) playing the baker’s wife, enthused, “I am so glad I am a part of it and that I get to play such a key role. It has been quite intense, with rehearsals most days of the week, but it’s been a lot of fun and I’ve got to meet a lot of great people through this. It has been a lot of work and a bit stressful but it’s definitely worth it!”.
Max (Year 10), who plays Jack, expounded: “This is my first year with older students and I’ve learned so much from them. I’d never heard of ‘Into the Woods’ before doing this and singing; I’ve never really sung in a show before; I’ve definitely taken a big upgrade there. It’s quite demanding on the music and quite demanding on the cast but it is so much fun taking part; all the teachers are so lovely; I can’t wait for show week!”
Oscar (Upper Sixth), concluded: “It’s great fun being part of the show; for me it’s a moment to switch off and to enjoy the world that we create in the show. With A Levels there is a lot of work to do so just having a few hours in the week and to go into the world that we’ve made is quite nice. I’ve not done a show before and this is probably among the top three things that I’ve done at the school, so if you are thinking of getting involved, even if it’s just a small role, every role is a role in the play, I would definitely say go for it!
