ISA Dance Competition

Two GCSE Dance Scholars participated in the Independent Schools’ Association (ISA) Dance Competition on Wednesday 2nd November and were proud to represent Leighton Park at this annual celebration of dance. The competition was organised into KS2 and KS3 performances in the morning with KS4/5 on stage in the afternoon.

The event offered a great opportunity to create an innovative piece of contemporary dance choreography and to watch dancers from a range of schools from across the UK.

Beth Butler, Head of Dance, commented, “The Dance department were incredibly proud of Jessy and Livi today representing LP at Reddam House for the annual ISA Dance Competition. The standard was high with many lyrical and jazz dance pieces. Livi and Jessy gave a moving duet performance which demonstrated their developed technical skills and sensitivity towards each other. Livi performed a distinctive solo expressing the Autumn season with a real sense of musicality. Both students were a credit to the School”

“I have done ISA every year for the school and as we move up the age categories the dancing just get more interesting and more unique.” reflected Jessy. “Livi and I were very nervous this time because not only were we doing a duet that we had created but it was also our first time in the highest age category with meant that we were against A Level Dance students. Beth, our Dance teacher was incredibly supportive and kind the whole way through which really calmed the stress.”

Livi enthused, “Participating in ISA Dance was such an amazing experience, as it is every year, because seeing the array of dance styles performed to such a high standard was really inspiring. It was lovely to meet dancers from other schools and the atmosphere was both friendly and exciting; so the perfect balance! On stage I felt so alive because I could feel how much the audience were rooting for us, and we went out and did our best, so I was very proud.”
