ISA Drama Competition Success!

We are delighted to have been awarded the Adjudicator’s Special Award for Best Costume and Props for ‘A Christmas Carol’ in the ISA Drama Competition for 2021. Leighton Park entered the Autumn Term 2020 festive show based on Dicken’s seasonal novel, ‘A Christmas Carol’. The enthusiastic actors from the Fryer Drama Club and the Sixth Form Drama Club were keen to take part in the more unusual format and created a wonderful film of the play which our parents, staff and students enjoyed on youtube at the end of term.

Due to the pandemic the Independent School’s Association conducted their annual competition for dramatic arts online this year. Contestants submitted video footage of performances and assessments took place remotely. The judges commented: “This production made excellent use of the medium of film to enhance the telling of the story. The ensemble pieces such as the dance and the Christmas meal were well executed by the ensemble. Harry and Patrick gave solid performances as the main characters and I felt I was in safe hands. I was especially impressed by the two younger members of the cast who held their own against the Year 12 actors. It was evident that the whole cast had paid attention to diction and vocal characterisation throughout and I felt that there were no weak performances. Overall, the standard of the costumes and attention to detail in the staging made the production look very professional. The ending was given impact with the Victorian photograph idea beautifully finishing off this performance piece.”

Matthew Judd, Head of Leighton Park, congratulated Head of Drama, Peter Scoggins, who directed and produced the piece saying, “Congratulations and you must feel a great sense of pride in the comments, which I consider thoroughly well deserved. I hope you will pass my congratulations to all of the production team.”
