On Friday 27th January, 29 students across Years 7 to Upper Sixth represented Leighton Park at the ISA London West Regional Cross Country Championships.
Competing amongst 35 other schools and over 700 runners, the boys and girls brought in some impressive results; Francesco in Year 11 took home 7th place for his time of 0:15:35 (3900m). In March, he will compete in the national finals in Nottinghamshire.
The muddy woodland course put everyone through their paces including Max in Year 7: “I would say the challenges I faced were the ground and how muddy it was – I even lost a shoe in the sprint finish! The start was hard as there were so many people all starting in the same place. I really enjoyed the middle as it was very scenic, and the best highlight was the sprint finish when I ran shoeless but still managed to overtake someone!”
Fellow Year 7 student, Alex, added “It was super muddy, so people kept losing their shoes! Some of my highlights were going on my first away sports fixture and getting to meet new people from other schools.”
“The weather was cold but perfect for running. The challenges were the mud and the fact that the majority of the end of the route was in the woods, making it quite hard to overtake at the end.” reported Youssef.
Following the event, Charlotte in Year 11 enthused, “The ISA Cross Country was an exciting and fun day to attend and participate in. Although some of us were nervous we still gave the races our all and tried our hardest for LP! I actually enjoyed the run and the feeling after you’ve done it, it makes me want to do it all over again!”
