We are delighted to celebrate the success of our talented artists, Annie and Lily, for their creative achievements at the ISA Regional Art Competition on Tuesday 9th October
Facing stiff competition from entries across the London West region, Annie’s sketchbook won her category and will go forward to the national finals in November. Lily’s beautiful feltwork and embroidery ‘Coral Corset’ won Highly Commended against a tough field of other independent schools’ artists.
Lily said “I am delighted to be able to work with Textiles for my GCSE Art piece submitted, particularly on the subject of water and nature , as it lent itself so well to colourful details seen in coral.” Mark Wood, Head of Art, added “Lily’s love of water, the ocean and fabric manipulations continue to impress us in her current A Level coursework, her creativity just keeps flowing!”
Annie is no stranger to recognition for her art, having won accolades previously for her ceramic work. Mark enthused, “It is wonderful to see her win first place amidst a strong field of others from across the region. Annie’s sketchbook is a detailed investigation, full of skillful, sensitive observations of ‘nature’s boundless vitality’, with every page exploring and trialling different ways of working.”
Alongside our award winners, our other shining highlights were Lana’s lively sketchbook, exploring suspended moments, Edie’s wonderful drawn portraits examining growth and decay as we age and Sum To’s light filled rooms comparing destinations at home and away.
The ISA National Art Competition takes place annually, inviting participation from all pupils at ISA schools from seven UK regions. It is an excellent platform for schools to showcase their students’ artistic talents and for teachers to share innovative practice and ideas. The competition is held in two stages, the Regional Art Competitions and the National Final which this year will be held on 14th and 15th November in Kenilworth. There are dozens of categories which cover all age groups and multiple genres, including 2D and 3D art, textiles, drawing, fashion and photography.
STEAM is a strength of Leighton Park School and we endeavour to show our students the most effective way to harness logical thinking and iterative approaches from STEM with creative habits of mind from the Arts.
