ISA Regional Art Competition Winners!

The Independent School Association held their impressively creative regional art competition this week with the regional round of London West hosted at Norden Farm Arts Centre in Maidenhead and our talented students were delighted to receive recognition for their stunning entries.

In the KS5 2D category, Matilde (Upper Sixth 2021-22) was awarded first place for her atmospheric painting, titled ‘Hideout’. Having been nominated the peoples’ favourite in last term’s Flux Art Show at LP, for another smaller scale artwork, Matilde will now take to the national stage with all the ISA winners in November.  She is currently beginning her studies in Fine Art at UAL and loving every minute of London life !

In the KS4 Sketchbook category Art Scholar Laurel (Lower Sixth) also was awarded a winner for her exceptional GCSE sketchbook, exploring interpretations of the theme ‘Growth’. It is rare that a book of this depth, detail and creative enquiry comes along, so we are thrilled that our opinion was shared by the judges.

Annie (Lower Sixth) who entered a thoughtful reflection on the climate and our oceans was awarded first place for a simply exquisite ceramic piece in the KS4 3D category. The competition was extremely strong in this category, and we are delighted that her GCSE work will now be appreciated by a larger audience in the national finals. Annie is continuing her creativity at A level developing an evolving body of work based on bones, skin and natural form. The refined delicate manner of her work draws the viewer in to appreciate aesthetic beauty as well as concept.

Ella (Lower Sixth) was also recognised and ‘Highly Commended’ for her richly layered mixed media, textile piece from Year 11, taking inspiration from her local surroundings and foraging in woodland. Against much larger scale work and garments, her piece had a quiet resonance to it and was appreciated by the judges for the skill and finesse with which it had been created.

Addressing the students, Mark Wood, Head of Art, commented, “The pieces you kindly entered for the ISA art competition were judged as winners in three cases and a highly commended in textiles. This is quite simply outstanding and we are immensely proud of you all. This was against a whole host of strong work in all categories from the London West regional round. To have four out of eight pieces by LP students receive such an award is just brilliant and a real credit to all your hard work and creativity. Well done!”
