British Science Week: Journey into Wonder

Our recent School trip to the Science Museum in London on Saturday 9th March proved to be an enriching and unforgettable experience for all involved. With a diverse range of attractions and exhibits, both museums offered a captivating journey through the wonders of science and natural history.

For our Year 7 and Year 8 students, the highlight of the Science Museum was undoubtedly Wonderlab. This hands-on science gallery provided an immersive and exhilarating experience, allowing students to engage in a variety of interactive experiments and demonstrations. Wonderlab sparked curiosity and ignited a passion for scientific discovery among our younger students.

Meanwhile, our Year 9 students and upwards embarked on a journey through the history of computer games at the Power Up exhibition. From the earliest arcade classics to the latest virtual reality simulations, Power Up offered a comprehensive overview of the evolution of gaming technology. Students were enthralled as they explored vintage consoles, tested their skills on retro games, and learned about the groundbreaking innovations that have shaped the gaming industry.

In addition to these main attractions, we had a splinter group of enthusiasts who opted to explore the Natural History Museum to marvel at the awe-inspiring dinosaurs. These students embarked on a journey through the prehistoric past, encountering towering skeletons and lifelike reconstructions of long-extinct creatures. The experience left them in awe of the wonders of natural history and sparked a newfound appreciation for the diversity of life on Earth.

As the day drew to a close, it was clear that a great time had been had by all. Head of Science, David Hammond, celebrated “Both the Science Museum and the Natural History Museum had provided not only a fun-filled day out but also a valuable learning experience that will leave a lasting impression. With minds buzzing with newfound knowledge and inspiration, we returned to School filled with enthusiasm for the wonders of science, technology, and the natural world.” A fantastic start to British Science Week, with lots more hand-on learning to follow in the classroom this week…
