The annual dance showcase, ‘Let’s Dance’ was once again a spectacular night on Thursday 19th June and the biggest LP dance show yet – with over 50 performances from our talented students!
Head of Dance, Beth Butler, commented: “It’s been a really busy, exciting year and I’m so proud to share the work, especially our first A Level cohort who are sharing all their work from their exam. This adds another layer, another level of complexity to what we’ve created, and it’s massive. It’s wonderful to have not just one year group from a primary school coming but Years 1 to 6 from Charvil Primary who will be opening the show with their pieces. It’s lovely to have older students inspiring them. I’m really excited that it’s a show with real variety; we’ve got Bob Fosse, we have contemporary, we have jazz, ballet, all of the NATD work. It’s a lovely way to end the year sharing everything that we have created!”
Jessica Wittert van Hoogland, Director of Drama, added: “It’s amazing how dance has grown and how the quality of dance has progressed at Leighton Park. It’s incredible that we combine classroom leaning with our co-curricular hobbies so that there is so much variety of dance and opportunity to get involved. Dance Week is a brilliant idea too and it’s been great to get in some external practitioners, especially for the boys’ workshop which is a real highlight!”
The performances included dances by the National Association of Teachers of Dance (NATD) exam candidates who took their exams in Grades 5, 6, Intermediate, Advance and Annual Performance grades earlier this week. Our A Level dancers, GCSE students, co-curricular dancers from LooP Dance Company and the boys who devised a new piece in the Manmade workshop with Will Hodson as part of Dance Week all got involved, as well as our younger years (Years 7-9) dancing their classwork pieces.
Felicity was pleased to be in the show saying “Everyone being very friendly and having fun together. I have lots of friends doing it and we all just work together a lot; it’s really fun!”
“We all get to show out individual talents, because there are so many dances, they range from jazz, hip-hop and contemporary and it looks so beautiful because we all get to showcase what we have been working on.” added Mackenzie (Year 10).
James (Year 9), who took part in the boys’ dance workshop on Wednesday to create a dance in a day concluded, “I have really enjoyed doing our team dance and building our own choreography with a professional choreographer. I am feeling quite excited about the performance tonight because I’m feeling confident about the work we have done.”
