Lift Off Dance Festival 2024

LooP Dance Company at Leighton Park were lucky enough to be selected to dance at the annual ‘Lift Off’ Dance Festival 2024 at South Hill Park on Sunday 17th March. There were many schools and dance companies involved at the event and it was invaluable for students to spend time with other dancers in a professional venue.  

 Year 9 student, Rohan, expressed: “It was such an awesome experience and we were very grateful to have the opportunity’, whilst Aji (Year 9) said “This experience is one I won’t forget; spending time with the rest of the dancers felt fantastic”.  

 Students performed their ‘Mechanic Orb; Coalesce’ piece at the Festival which was a hip hop contemporary fusion. The dance is driven by the mechanical rhythms and students’ curve and arch both as soloists and ensembles. 

 Not only did they perform, but also had the opportunity to take part in a fast-paced challenging hip hop masterclass with Zoe Warboys, giving our dance enthusiasts a variety of new moves to take back with them to the classroom to develop their skills. 

 After the riveting day of Dance, Mikayla (Year 8) said “My time at ‘Lift Off’ was a great experience because of the venue and the hip hop masterclass was my highlight, it helped me develop my performance skills in this style”. Katie (Year 10) also shared her enthusiasm for the masterclass saying: “The best bit of the day was the hip hop masterclass; I enjoyed it so much as dancing makes me so happy!”.
