The LooP Dance Company took part in the Thatcham Thrives Dance Gala on Sunday 8th October, performing for the first time as a group off the Park. Thatcham Thrives is an annual event hosted at the Kennet School in West Berkshire and is described by the organisers as ‘a spectacular showcase of regional dance talent. Audiences will be treated to performances of street dance, hip hop, ballet, tap, contemporary and musical theatre.’
Leighton Park Dance teacher and trip organiser, Anja Nash, enthused, “The whole event was extremely successful, with 17 other schools taking part and all performing in two shows back-to-back. The performances on the night featured a range of dance styles and participant ages. We also had wonderful feedback from those hosting the event, explaining that they really enjoyed the storytelling of the LooP Dance Company’s pieces and how the movement worked with the music. Parents of our students commented that they could feel how ‘dramatic’ the pieces felt, especially with the lighting and vast space of the venue. It was wonderful to have lots of parents watching to support.”
One such supportive parent, Liam McNeill, who attended both performances, congratulated the dancers on their success saying: “…their performance was nothing short of spectacular, showcasing the immense talent and dedication of your students, Beth and her team.”
The dancers were equally delighted by their experiences:, “Can we please do more of these outside of school?!” asked Tyler (Year 9) and “It is really fun!” laughed Mikayla (Year 9).
Anja concluded: “We really look forward to continuing taking part in events like this and we are so proud of our dancers for their performances and for representing Leighton Park School.”
