Lower Sixth Activities Week

The Lower Sixth dived straight into their Activities Week with a splash at the Wokingham Waterside Centre! On Monday 26th June they donned their swimmies and headed for the river taking part in a carousel of raft building, katakanuing and paddleboarding. Supplemented by a scrumptious picnic, courtesy of Thomas Franks, the group had a glorious day of sunshine and splashing in the great outdoors. The afternoon finished off with yet more food and socialising as the Sixth Formers continued with a BBQ in the garden at Field House.

On Tuesday there were plenty of life (and death) skills on offer. A murder was solved by our Lower Sixth detectives with The Forensic Experience who delivered a brilliant workshop teaching our sleuths to use science to crack the case! The enthusiastic crime stoppers also got to work on their UCAS forms and learn from Confident Speakers how to be the perfect job applicant and how to deliver a fantastic presentation.

On Wednesday they headed to London for a series of museum visits designed to intrigue a variety of interests from historical fashions in the V&A to cutting edge technology in the Science Museum. The IB group visited an educational icon, the British Library, as part of their Theory of Knowledge course whilst others explored the curiosities of the Natural History Museum.

On Thursday and Friday the cohort followed their individual projects exploring their Extended Project Qualification next steps with Deputy Head of Sixth Form, Claire Gulliver, and looking into online learning options such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), webinars and software training, particularly Microsoft.

Friday was a day for the Art students to head to London for a visit to ‘Free Range’ exhibition at Trumans Brewery, a collection of graduate art exhibitions, with many inspiring and eccentric pieces on display.

The end of the week also provided a space for IB students to tackle their Individual Assessments; an essential element of their Diploma course.
